Caanan is back with another amazing guest comic! I seriously want to hire Caanan to do a spin-off series spotlighting all the other students at Yasiro Academy. He just seems to have an uncanny grasp of these characters and the hijinks they get into. Perhaps his past self was a school girl? Ah well. If only I had my own publishing company…

Story by Richard J. Maloney
Art by Manuel Preitano
Another amazing guest strip! This time by the story/art team of Maloney and Preitano. I’m starting to run out of creative ways to gush over these. So much to love about this one from that giant mummy to his “dark side” of a belt to the super fun hieroglyphics that frame the already beautiful art. Plus it’s funny. :)
Preitano’s no stranger to CiS, providing this adorable fan art a year or so back. So I encourage you to check out more of both Maloney and Preitano’s work over at Instant Press Comics, including one of my favorites, Mysteries of Bakerville.
Thanks so much, guys!
Everyone thank Brian for this awesome comic he provided for me just yesterday! I mentioned on twitter that I didn’t have a guest strip for today and he graciously came to the rescue. So it would make me all kinds of appreciative if everyone would check out his comic Instant Classic in return. Brian’s got a great whimsical style that I’m sure a bunch of you will love. I sure do.
I’ve gotten a few emails of late from people assuming I’m not coming back to this comic. This is untrue! Chapter 3 is still a go. And sooner rather than later. In the meantime, I’m just thankful to have so many awesome friends and artists taking the time to provide some content for the site while I swim though this busiest of times. Both professionally and fatherly. :)
When I asked Bryan to contribute a guest strip for this comic, I was hoping he would draw something uncharacteristic, slightly gross, and a bit off kilter. Bryan never disappoints.
Yay! It’s Kayte! Always so happy to see when my guest comikers use some of the other supporting characters. And Kayte proved a popular one. Even though I never addessed her by name in the actual comic. And look! Nathan Fillion decided to show up as well!
So yeah. Caanan. The guy is amazing. Seriously one of my favorite creators working in the biz right now. Whether it’s fan art or comics, he puts so much thought and care into everything he draws- and it totally shows. Make sure to check out his Eisner-nominated Max Overacts and, if in some shape or form you haven’t already, his truly wonderful Muppet Thor 24-hour comic.
He drew that in TWENTY-FOUR HOURS! Gah. Still drives me nuts.
Haha. Poor Khensu. He tries so hard to stay propurrr.
Along with this strip, Mike also sent me roughs for a fantastic eight-page Cleo comic featuring a young Marc Antony in Spaaaace! Unfortunately, he got too busy to finish it. But maybe if we all tell him how awesome he is we can convince him to finish it!
I may be biased, but I think this is the best thing Katie has ever done. I mean seriously. Is there anything out there that Katie can’t make cute as a button? And the color pallet for this… Gah. Beautiful.
(Also, I lied. This is the best thing Katie has ever done.)
It’s Ninjsaur vs Cleopatra in Spaaaace (and Khensu)!!!!! Seriously. How rad is this? Now the question is, who do you think would win?
Jason is currently Kickstarting his first full volume of Ninjasaur. He’s fully funded (awesome) but if you help him reach his new goal he will draw a SUPER SECRET SKETCH inside of every book (even more awesome). Guys! Let’s help him do this!
This week’s catastic guest strip comes courtesy of Mr James Anderson. I love it! Khensu’s expression and pose in that middle panel is perfect. Thanks so much James!
James draws the simultaneously adorable and elegant sci-fi webcomic, Ellie on Planet X, about a young exploratory robot well… exploring the day to day craziness on a newly discovered planet. It’s both funny and often times a wonderful commentary on the craziness that happens on our own planet. Make sure to check it out!
As I mentioned in my blog post last Friday, a bunch of my favorite comic makers are stepping in with some Cleopatra in Space guest strips while I finish up some projects and continue learning to be a dad.
First up is this simply wonderful strip by fellow SD7 crewmate, Dani Jones. I just LOVE this comic! And yes, I probably am bias since not only am I in it by also my son. But still- this is so great. Completely in tune with the personalities of Cleo and Khensu. Thanks so much, Dani!
Dani should be a household name by now when it comes to comics. Not only is she the creator of countless children’s books, short stories and the all-ages opus, My Sister, The Freak, but she’s also the brains behind The Illustrated Section– an online store for digital picture books and comics! If you haven’t already, I highly recommend downloading My Sister, The Freak Volume 1 (available now). Not only is there a great guest gallery in there by some amazing artists (also me!) but it’s a super entertaining story to boot.
