Today is the day! The third book in the CLEOPATRA IN SPACE series, Secret of the Time Tablets, is now out wherever books are sold. Please help me in sharing the news.

Cleo 3 wraps up the first of two trilogies for the series. For those who haven’t read any of the books yet, now’s a good time to start. There will be a time jump with Book 4 which sets up a new story arc.

Here’s the cover copy:

Cleo and her friends journey from Yasiro Academy to the city of Hykosis, where some of the most notorious thieves and assassins live. They’re in search of information about the time tablets that could determine Cleo’s fate — whether she wants them to or not. But the group is separated when Xaius Octavian’s fleet attacks their ship, and Cleo and Akila are on their own until they run into an old nemesis. Will Cleo find the information she needs and get out of Hykosis alive?

Here’s a 16 page excerpt.

Here are some nice things people have said about the series thus far:

*”Maihack’s characters, both human and nonhuman, are diverse, expressive, and visually distinct.” — School Library Journal, starred review

“A delight, with its exciting layout of a futuristic Egypt complete with cool pyramid skyscrapers.” — Booklist

“Cleopatra smoothly slips into the role of confident, wisecracking, baddie-dispatching hero, and the supporting cast falls neatly into place as well.” — Publishers Weekly

“Cleo’s easygoing confidence makes her a likable… heroine, but the real star of the graphic novel is Maihack’s art. The cinematic paneling during action sequences skillfully conveys Cleo’s vivacity and flair.” — Kirkus Reviews

“Cleo is a fun, fearless heroine — I’d love to explore the galaxy with her!” — Raina Telgemeier, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Smile

The third book in the CLEOPATRA IN SPACE series, Secret of the Time Tablets, will be out this month! It is, if you’ll allow me this momentary lapse of being humble, the best book in the series yet. A lot of stuff that the webcomic was leading up to ended up within it’s pages (reworked a bit of course) plus it wraps up the first story arc of the graphic novels. Now’s a really good time to read the whole series if–for whatever crazy reason–you’ve been holding off on doing so far.

Here’s the cover copy:

Cleo and her friends journey from Yasiro Academy to the city of Hykosis, where some of the most notorious thieves and assassins live. Here’s your first look at the cover for CLEOPATRA IN SPACE #3: SECRET OF THE TIME TABLETS! It’ll be out next spring.

This is my favorite book in the series yet. A lot of what the webcomic was leading up to ended up in here plus it wraps up the first story arc of the graphic novels. Really hope a lot of people that were maybe meh on the first two books give this one a shot. At least for closure’s sake. ;)

And of course Books 1 & 2 are still available wherever books are sold.

There may even be some within driving and/or teleporting distance from your place of residence.

I’m incredibly proud of Cleopatra in Space #2. Please help me in sharing its release in places where those things are done. Maybe use the hashtag #CleopatraInSpace so I can see that you’ve done so. Or snap a picture with the book if that is a thing you think might be fun to do. I am personally going to celebrate by starting colors on Book 3. :)

Here’s the entire wrap-around cover for the second book in the CLEOPATRA IN SPACE series, The Thief and the Sword! Really proud of this one. Was able to write/draw a ton of stuff I’ve been eager tell in Cleo’s saga for a while now–sometimes at the sake of my own sanity. The story picks up directly after the events of Target Practice:

When a mysterious thief steals the ancient sword Cleo recovered in CLEOPATRA IN SPACE, BOOK ONE: TARGET PRACTICE, Cleo is determined to get it back, but her teachers at Yasiro Academy forbid her from risking her life. Stuck at school, Cleo is having a hard time adjusting to her newfound popularity and responsibility. And when she learns more about the prophecy that names her the savior of the galaxy and the time tablets that could decide her fate, she must go on a dangerous journey to find them before they can fall into the wrong hands.

CLEOPATRA IN SPACE #2 will be out April 28th, 2015 (the end of this month!). Preorder the book and know you’ve earned a special place in my heart.

I am now taking pre-orders for Cleopatra in Space #2! The 72 pg full-color soft-bound book will be priced at only $10 and all pre-orders will receive free shipping (starting in August, due to increased shipping costs, all shipping for books in my store will be $2).

Pre-orders help cover my costs for book 2 which, due to it’s page count and color printing, was an expensive book to produce. But it’s going to look good. Real good. Especially considering you’re going to get new and never-before-seen art by me, a behind-the-scenes process, and all-new guest art by Tony Cliff, Otis Frampton, Mitch Gerads, Chris Houghton, Tracy Lee, Sarah Mensinga, Jon Morris and Jez Tuya!

I’m also, for the first time, offering an Artist Edition which will include an original pencil sketch by me (something more substantial then my usual book doodles). The Artist Edition will be priced at $15. Both the regular editions and Artist Editions will be signed.

So what are you waiting for? Pre-order Cleopatra in Space #2 right now!

As promised, Cleopatra in Space’s first book is now for sale in my online store. $6. Free shipping. Get it now!

You’ll be able to find me hiding behind table N-05 in the Small Press area (aisle 1700) as indicated on this official SDCC map:

sdcc_map-2.jpg

And I will have a bunch of brand spankin new Cleopatra in Space books with me! Fresh off the printer.

cleo_books01.jpg

cleo_books01.jpg

I’ll also have Cow & Buffalo books, lots of prints, Jen, some buttons and stuff… More than likely I’ll be drawing a lot of pictures too. This will be the first time I’ll have a table at SDCC as well as my first time exhibiting on the west coast. That means it’ll likely be the first time I’ll get the chance to meet a lot of you, so I hope you can stop by and say hi!

For any of you that follow my little webcomic, Cleopatra in Spaaace!! (and you should!), you know I’m printing the first chapter in an all-new 48 page book! Even though I’m still waiting for the physical copies to arrive from the printer, I thought it’d be nice to share the cover art for it.

cleo_cover01.jpg

And here’s one of those process flash animations for it.

The book will debut at the San Diego Comic-Con next week (OMG) where I’ll be hiding behind table N-O5 in the small press area. Afterwards, I’ll be putting them up for sale online.

Here is some new Cleopatra in Space art I recently finished up for my favorite convention of the year, HeroesCon, which I’ll be at in June.

I will have a signed & numbered limited edition print run of fifteen for it at the con. Fourteen of them will be for sale at my table. The other one, along with the original b&w artwork, will be donated to Heroes Aren’t Hard To Find’s annual art auction which helps fund the show and maintain it’s awesomeness.

All signs are pointing towards this years show being the best one ever. I’m really excited. June 4-6, Charlotte Convention Center. Hope to see you there!

EDIT: I found out I’ll be at table AA-520, on the outskirts of Indie Island. Click HERE for a map that shows you exactly where that is, along with some photos of the above Cleo prints!

EDIT #2: The above HeroesCon print is now available in my online store!

For those that don’t follow Cleopatra in Space—shame on you! Haha. Nah it’s cool (kinda). I just wanted to share this illo I finished up and posted over there today. Super Punch is celebrating its third anniversary by asking a bunch of different artists to contribute to a tarot card deck. I was fortunate enough to nab “The Star.” Fortunate because it gave me permission to illustrate a little preview of an upcoming Cleo story.

And by “upcoming” I mean a few years from now (I have stories lined up for Cleo to last me a lifetime). But there are some elements to this piece that come into play as early as chapter 2.

Here’s a hodgepodge of stuff from over the weekend.

This is the card I drew for Jen for Valentines Day. It’s our two cats, Ash and Misty, being typical Ash and Misty. Jen posted the card she made for me over on her blog.

ash&misty.jpg

Here’s a couple of sketches of Khensu I posted over at Cleopatra in Space. Anything Cleo related I’ll prob just post over there, but I might crosspost the occasional drawing or illustration here as well.

khensu_sketches01.jpg

And lastly, my sister and bro-in-law had their first baby last week! A healthy, adorable, wrinkly little boy. So here’s a little sketch I did of my new nephew, Desmond S Tally, while I was over at their place seeing him for the first time.

i promise to continue her adventures in comic form as soon as i get caught up with the multitude of other stuff on my plate right now.

also, for the first time ever, i’ve decide to sell the original art for the above cleo drawing.  the price is $50 which includes shipping and a print of the colored version. if interested, just shoot me an email.  you can view the black and white line work HERE and if there’s a good response i’ll think about selling some more original art down the road. maybe even take the time to set up an ebay store or something.
