Here’s a bunch of cats in a library I painted yesterday. If you’re a librarian headed to ALA Orlando in June, that’s where it’ll be! It’s for the silent art auction.
You are currently browsing the archive for the art category.
A tad late on this, but my annual little compilation of some of the stuff I drew last year. Most of my time was spent working on Cleo (Book 3 for the first half, Book 4 for the second) but I still managed to sneak in a few other fun things here and there. Lots’o watercolors.
Thing to look forward from me this year: Cleopatra in Space #3! My fav in the series so far (and available for preorder). Other than that who knows what will get announced. Guess I’ll find out along with you. :)
One of my favorite shows of the year is nearly here. HeroesCon is this weekend! And I’ll be there residing in Indie Island once again, this time near the back (table AA-1024). Look at this useful map I made to help you find me!
If you are attending, you’ll also have the chance to take home this original Batgirl/Supergirl canvas I painted for the annual art auction (held at the Westin across the street from the convention center). One of a kind! It took a while. Probably won’t do something like it again.
Also Cleo books 1 and 2! New prints! Stickers! A three-year-old! A pregnant wife! Exclamation marks!!! This might also be my last HeroesCon for a couple of years, so I really hope some of you are able to stop by.
Better late than never! Finally drew a Ron and Hermione to go with the Harry Potter I sketched a few years ago.
If you’d like to bid on the originals for any of these, I put them up HERE. Still trying to pay off some vet bills unfortunately.
Was given permission this week to share the illustration I drew for the Reading Rainbow calendar- an incentive from the Kickstarter they ran last year (which raised 5.5 mil!). Was a pretty fun piece to work on.
Started doing this a few years ago: a compiling of some of the stuff I drew–well, drew and posted–in 2014 (there’s quite a bit of stuff I drew that hasn’t been published yet). Looking at the above, 2014 consisted mostly of Batgirl, Supergirl and Cleopatra. Nothing wrong with that!
Stuff to look forward from me in 2015: Cleopatra in Space #2! Short Wonder Woman story in Sensational Comics! Maybe a pinup or two! Maybe another Batgirl/Supergirl comic!
I posted this around social media last week but sometimes forget I have readers here who might not follow me elsewhere (at least I think I still have readers here?). Some of you might recall the Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! all-ages card game I illustrated a couple years back. If not, here are all 40 illustrations I did for it.
Well now, Game-O-Gami and I have teamed up to Kickstart not only an affordable paperback edition of the full-color art book (which was previously only a hardcover exclusive to those who backed the card game), but we’ve hired awesome digital artist Josh Ulrich to ink my pencil sketches for a new coloring book! And he’s done an AMAZING job.
This is my first foray into Kickstarting, and I’d love to see it be a success. So, if you care to, please help share the news! Even better, please support it. Even $1 helps. Would love to see this happen! Link below.
My favorite comic character is getting a smart new look thanks to Cameron Stewart, Brenden Fletcher, and Bas Tarr! Of course, anyone who’s been following me for at least a year knows how excited I am about a more youthful direction for Babs. Here’s some fan art I drew the day the news broke.
Of course I had to see how Supergirl would react.
For those interested, the original line art for that comic is available HERE.
About to head out to ALA Vegas in just under an hour. Librarians! I am excited to meet you! I’ll be located in Artist Alley table 2139 Fri-Mon and signing at the Scholastic booth (#0430) Sat from 2-3. I’ll also have the above Moby Dick piece in the auction if that looks like something you’d like to bid on.
Cleo books will be on hand as well as prints and even a few sketchbooks I decided to throw in at the last minute. This is my first ALA so I’m really excited, if also a bit apprehensive. Hoping for a great time!
HeroesCon is this weekend! Above is a Harley & Ivy watercolor I painted for this year’s Heroes Aren’t Hard To Find art auction. I’ll be at Artist Alley table 1113 (pretty much smack dab in the middle of the convention floor). Here’s a map:
And here’s a bigger map.
I’ll also be on a panel Saturday morning. Info for that:
ALL AGES PANEL- A HEROESCON TRADITION! KIDS READ COMICS TOO!
Moderator JIMMY AQUINO (COMIC NEWS INSIDER) is joined by MIKE MAIHACK (Cleopatra in Space), CHRIS SCHWEIZER (the Crogan series), ANDY RUNTON (Owly), JEREMY WHITELY (My Little Pony), STEPAHNIE GLADDEN (Peanuts) and THOM ZAHLER (My Little Pony) to talk about their amazing comics. They’ll discuss why they went into this genre and if there is a difference between “kid’s comics” and “all-ages comics”.
Plus, Cleo books, sketchbooks, gobs of prints, a restless two-year-old (not for sale), a gorgeous wife (also not for sale)…tons of great stuff. Hope to see some of you there!

This was the Batgirl I drew for Project:Rooftop’s “Batgirl Begins Again” contest which, at the time I submitted it, had no idea was actually a contest. Haha. My thought process was a slightly older Babs who has taken on the mantle of Batwoman hence the sort of combo of those two outfits. Nothing extreme, although, knowing now that these designs were going to be judged, I might’ve taken a different approach. Still, pleased with how the drawing came out and surprised to be a runner up!
My Hellboy for Multiversity Comics’ 31 Days Of Hellboy. Would have posted this when it went up Monday, but just got back from a short, much Disneyed vacation.
People have started receiving Ryan North’s excellent To Be Or Not To Be chooseable-path adventure book. I got mine, and it’s HUGE. And awesome. And hilarious. This is the ending I Illustrated for it. So, spoilers? Maybe? Depends on what path you choose. ;)
